The Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) and Te Tītoki Mataora are proud to offer paid summer studentships to ambitious Māori, Pacific, and other tertiary students to experience what conducting research in health and medical technologies is really like. Students can be placed with established research groups at one of our partner institutions, and work in a range of fields including brain research, medical device and digital health design and development, experimental physiology, computational modelling, software/algorithm development, clinical translation of new medical technologies, and more.
There are two types of studentships available:
ABI & Te Tītoki Mataora Manaaki Pathway Summer Studentships: For students of any ethnicity wanting a Kaupapa Māori studentship with our partner institutions.
ABI & Te Tītoki Mataora Niu Tupu Summer Studentships: For students of Pacific descent wanting a studentship with our partner institutions.
Payment: NZD$6,750 (tax-free) per studentship.
Term: 10 weeks / 375 hours - provisional dates between 24 November 2025 and 13 February 2026 (excluding Christmas) Final dates to be decided between supervisor and student.
To be eligible, you must:
Meet the criteria for your selected studentship(s);
Be a current student at a NZ tertiary institution;
Be available to work on your project full time between provisional dates of 24 November 2025 and 13 February 2026 (excluding Christmas); and
Be interested in health and medical technologies, and in making an impact on healthcare for communities.
