Proudly hosted by the Te Tītoki Mataora Future Leaders Module, this national seminar series spotlights emerging and established MedTech leaders who are turning academic research into real-world health solutions. This session is for PhD students, postdocs, clinician-scientists, engineers, and anyone curious about translating research into impact.

12:05 pm: Keynote presentation Dr Kate Waterworth

Kate Waterworth is a Senior Lecturer, based within the Centre for Person Centred Rehabilitation Research at AUT University. She teaches across postgraduate courses on themes related to critical disability studies, critical rehabilitation studies, philosophy, sociology and research methodology. In AUT's physiotherapy programme, she supported students to develop their relational, communication and cultural capacities. Kate is involved in research using post-qualitative methodologies to rethinking disability, rehabilitation, and the intersections of these with childhood in Aotearoa NZ.  She worked as a physiotherapist for children in the community in West Auckland and Rotorua for many years.

12:30 pm: Keynote presentation Dr Sally Britnell

Sally Britnell is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing at Auckland University of Technology. With a PhD in Computing and Mathematics and over 15 years of clinical nursing experience, she brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to healthcare education and innovation. Her research sits at the intersection of nursing, health informatics, computer science, and disability and accessibility, spanning areas such as virtual reality simulations and digital accessibility standards. Through her clinical and academic expertise, Sally is committed to developing innovative, inclusive, and technology-enabled solutions that improve healthcare and accessibility.
